Education Program

PRE-PRIMARY EDUCATION

Pre-primary education is an intervention of SUROVI contributing to promote quality of primary education. The overall objective of the program is to prepare disadvantaged children for entry to mainstream primary school with necessary proficiency. The target beneficiaries under the program comprised with children from poorest families in urban slums. Children age between 5-6 years is considered to enroll in the program. Graduate children from SBK have also been enrolled in Pre-primary Education.

A twelve months’ course has been designed with special emphasis on learning alphabets and numbers, telling stories, rhymes, art and play. Toys and education aids are used for playful learning. 25 to 30 children are enrolled in a Pre-school. The children learn in a fearless and joyful environment. At the end of the course they are able to write alphabet, count up to twenty and perform simple addition and subtraction and get ready to enroll in grade one in the primary school. The academic year considers from January to December.

PRIMARY EDUCATION

SUROVI has been implementing primary education since its inception in 1979. The organization has been imparting primary education in school based approach as well as center based approach. School based approach having a school campus with pre-primary to grade eight education and class based teachers while center based education runs by one teacher in a room with 25-30 learners.  

School based Primary Education: The schools are situated in the urban slums where children have no other option to access in primary education. The schools enroll children inclusively in its catchment areas regardless of religion, gender, cast, ethnicity, physical and mental disability. The school helps the graduates to enroll other institutions for higher education. The school based primary education program follows national primary education curriculum. The school ensures co-curricular activities for the learners of school based education program. SUROVI provides all education materials free of cost.  

Center-based primary Education: Center-based primary education program of SUROVI creates access of disadvantaged out of school children to primary education. This program has been operating in non-formal approach. Multi-grade teaching-learning approach is following in the NFPE centers the teacher is especially trained up in multi-grade teaching-learning approach. The non formal primary education centers follow national primary education curriculum.

 BASIC EDUCATION & LIFE SKILLS

The objectives of the program are to provide basic literacy and life skills to the working children in the urban areas to access their rights to education, protection, development and participation. The program also emphasized on awareness, hygiene, nutrition, behavioral change and communication of the adolescent group so that they could initiate their self development.  The program commences necessary interventions in favor of working children and their families and for protecting children from hazardous working environment.  It also increases awareness of employers and relevant stakeholders to act in favor of steps forward elimination of child labor. The key intervention of the program is to provide basic primary education to urban working children and adolescents group with required life skills education. The life skill based basic education help the children to make their daily life easy, enhance performance at their working situation, improve literacy and numeric skills and increase income levels. 

POST LITERACY & CONTINUING EDUCATION

The overall objective of the program is to improve present literacy level of neo-literates, prepare them competent go for continuing education, increase their earning level that contribute to improve human resources having an impact on human development indicators in national level. The primary target group under the program comprises neo literate primary drop out male and Female in the working locations age between 11 to 45 years. Priority is given male and female age between 15 to 35 years dropped out from primary schools in the program area. A total 51000 people of above age to be covered with the service under the program.
